Matt Okine
The multi-talented comedian, actor/presenter and musician began his career by becoming a national triple J RAW finalist in 2004, at the age of 18, after only 3 previous gigs. Since then he has gone on to win multiple awards for his stand up comedy, toured the world and appeared on countless television shows.
2012 proved to be a breakthrough year for Matt; his debut stand up show Being Black N Chicken N Shit had a sell-out season at the Brisbane Comedy Festival and won the Melbourne International Comedy Festival’s award for Best Newcomer plus he had a highly-acclaimed season at the prestigious Soho Theatre in London’s West End. In the same year, Matt was also an official participant in the invite-only Montreal Just For Laughs Comedy Festival and supported Aziz Ansari at Sydney Opera House!
He has scooped some major accolades in the past few years, including the prestigious Director’s Choice Award at the 2015 Melbourne International Comedy Festival for his intrinsically personal show, The Other Guy. Following the success of this live stand-up show the popular TV channel Stan announced The Other Guy as one of the new original productions for 2017, to be written by and starring Matt Okine. Other awards that year consisted of the 2015 ARIA Award for Best Comedy Release for Matt Okine; Live at the Enmore Theatre. He also collected a nomination for Best Comedy Performer at the 2015 Helpmann Awards as well as a nomination for Best International Show at the 2015 NZ International Comedy Festival.
Okine performs sell out national tours of his live shows year in, year out and supporting international acts including Dave Chappelle and Chelsea Handler, as well as appearing regularly in several TV shows including ABC TV’s It’s a Date and Dirty Laundry Live and SBS’s Legally Brown. Matt is currently working with the ABC on the upcoming show Short Cuts To Glory: Matt Okine Vs Food.
